How it gets described on the phone
- Fresh-food side drifting warm while the freezer stays rock hard
- Frost across the back wall again within days of the last time it was cleared
- Water standing under the crisper, or a sheet of ice across the cabinet floor
- Compressor that runs from morning until night without ever cycling off
What gets tested on the visit
- Cabinet and evaporator temperatures taken at the shelf, against the display rather than from it
- Defrost cycle forced and watched all the way through instead of inferred from a frost pattern
- Evaporator fan draw, blade clearance and the duct that feeds the fresh-food compartment
- Condenser condition, airflow at the grille and the clearance the cabinetry actually leaves
- Door seal compression, hinge alignment and closer, because a door that never quite shuts loads everything behind it
Frost that returns within a week of being cleared is a defrost or a drain fault, and clearing it by hand only restarts the clock. Warm fresh food with a hard freezer is nearly always airflow or defrost on that one circuit rather than a dying compressor. Sealed-system work is carried out under EPA Section 608 certification when the readings call for it, and only then.
